Baby Paris set for Placid Ark

Baby Paris will put her near-flawless record on the line in forthcoming 3yo features at Ascot following another resounding victory on Saturday.

The Colin Webster-trained daughter of Playing God improved her record to three wins from four starts in the Crown Towers Plate (1200m) at Belmont.  Her only loss to date was in the G2 Karrakatta Plate when she was runner-up to Champion WA 2YO Amelia’s Jewel.

Starting an odds-on favourite following a first-up victory a fortnight ago, Baby Paris (Yellow Cap / Photo: Western Racepix) tracked speedy pacesetter Universal Flair and stayed on strongly at the end of 1200m.  Sporting a distinctive Brow-Band, she won by three-quarters of a length from Saintorio (Oratorio).

“She’s enjoying her racing and is more mature now,” Webster revealed.  “She did have barrier issues but Jeff and Fenella Martin did a wonderful job getting her right.  She was comfortable when the leader ran along today and then took the short way home.

“We will give her one more run before a break and then come back for the carnival.”

In a post-race interview, Webster wouldn’t be specific about an actual event although the $500,000 Placid Ark Stakes (LR, 1200m) would be a tempting target on November 12.  He has prepared the winners of a dozen races by Playing God starting with the Darling View stallion’s first-crop Ascot-winning filly Divine Quest.

Baby Paris is only $1,270 shy of $300,000 in earnings which includes Westspeed Platinum Bonuses.  She had also accrued $1,740 in EPONA credits prior to her two wins this season.

A homebred for Kalgoorlie trainer Gary Bowen, she’s the first foal of War In Paris (War Chant) who was raced by Frank Fiore to win on the provincial circuit at Bunbury, Pinjarra and Kalgoorlie (2).

Second-dam Paris Moon (Metal Storm) won the 2002 Ngawyni Stakes (LR, 1200m) and her half-brother Dr John (Mr Johnson), who was also raced by Fiore, won the 2004 WA Guineas (Gr.2, 1600m).

Playing God stands at Darling View for $27,500 with Splintex ($11,000) and Patronize ($4,400).  All service fees (inc GST).
