Surrender runaway at Bunbury

Darling View Thoroughbreds completed a double on Sunday when Surrender Talks and Sweet Strawberry were successful at Bunbury.

Surrender Talks (3g I’m All The Talk – True Surrender by Poliuto) opened the card with a runaway four-length victory in the Passionate Baker Maiden (1400m) after being supported from $4.40 into a $2.50 favourite.

The Lou Luciani-trained winner (pictured) must have shown vast improvement in private off a midfield debut at Bunbury earlier this month.  He’s bred to keep progressing being a half-brother to 8 winners including Moccasin Bend (G2 WA Guineas).

Their dam True Surrender was trained by Darryn Pateman to win at Ascot in February 2003 and she’s still going strong at stud with a Playing God colt born in September.

Playing God weighed in later on Sunday with the Brock Lewthwaite-trained mare Sweet Strawberry who defeated La Farola (Deep Field) by a length in the Furphy Refreshing Ale Hcp (1200m).  She was a $50,000 buy for Constance Cheng at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Sweet Strawberry (4m Playing God – Living Colour by Oratorio) is the first foal from an unraced three-quarter sister to G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Motion Pictures.  The second is Victorian-based 3yo Mr Have A Chat (I’m All The Talk) and her final foal is 2yo filly Live Player (Playing God) who was a $31,000 buy for Neville Parnham at this year’s Perth Magic Millions.

Lewthwaite also prepared the Cheng-owned Alfred Nobel filly Star Present who is a full-sister to Showy Chloe (G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes) and a half-sister to El Rijes (LR Perth Stakes) and Special Reward (G3 ATC Southern Cross Stakes).

Star Present won a Lark Hill trial in September 2019 and was exported without racing in WA.  Now with David Hayes in Hong Kong, she has failed to trouble the judge in four starts and was last seen finishing midfield at Happy Valley in October.
