Playing God 3yo Devine Belief waved good-bye to the provincials after she streeted a capacity field in a one-off visit to Northam on Thursday.
Trainer David Harrison gave his exciting filly an easy kill first-up in the Own The Dream 2023 Maiden (1000m) ahead of a black-type program at Ascot. She railed up from an inside alley and was off and gone when slipped some leather in the straight.
Jockey Joe Azzopardi looked back for any closers but daylight was the only danger at the furlong. He let her coast to the line to score by the best part of four lengths from Malkar Pindari (Gingerbread Man) and Eyeshadow (Safeguard).
Devine Belief (Photo / Western Racepix) was resuming from a six-month spell and started a $2.80 favourite on the strength of an impressive debut in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) at Ascot in March. She led a red-hot lot and gave a kick half-way down the straight before Amelia’s Jewel erupted on the way to Champion 2YO honours in WA.
Devine Belief enhances a Playing God crop that can dominate Perth’s 3yo division this season. They include Baby Paris, Swear to God, Bustler, Paddy’s Lad, Vampi At Play and Sky Duke.
Harrison bought her for $130,000 from Willaview Park at the 2021 Perth Magic Millions. She is a half-sister to three winners by Demerit and is the penultimate foal from their dam Alchemic (Tribu) who won five races for Graeme and Colin Webster in Perth and another six for Steve Wolfe in Albany.
Alchemic’s final foal is a Wolfe-trained Playing God 2yo filly named Plays With Magic.
Playing God stands at Darling View for $27,500 with Splintex ($11,000) and Patronize ($4,400). All service fees (inc GST).
