Moonee Valley juvenile winner Gloop launched a hat-trick for Darling View Thoroughbreds stallion Econsul on Saturday.
Gloop forced his way through a gap on the fence to land the Aquanas Foods Hcp (1200m) from Turfane (Turffontein) and All Day Baby (More Than Ready). He had been placed on debut at Bendigo last month and firmed from $14 into $10 second-up.
He doesn’t have any issues and he’s just a good little horse,” trainer Chris Hyland said. “Right from the beginning, he’s been a professional and does everything without having to be pushed.
I don’t have a complete handle on his ceiling but I’m sure there’s better to come.”
Gloop (2g Econsul – Annie Lane by Orpen) has another link with Western Australia through his second-dam Super Unicorn (Ksar). She is a half-sister to G1 Karrakatta Plate winner Golden Unicorn (Jevington).

The winner races for a syndicate managed by Rob Salter and is named after Augustus Gloop from the 1970s movie Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
Front-running filly Our Exchange brought up a city double for Econsul in the Peter Koster Hcp (1300m) at Morphetville. It was her second win this prep following a Strathalbyn maiden on April 30.
Our Exchange (3f Econsul – Our Fame by Bellotto) is part-0owned by Snow Cooper who celebrated his 85th birthday in fine style with the winner’s other part-owners and trainer Richard Jolly.
The Jollys have been breeding from her family for several generations. Richard’s parents Peter and Helen bred her second-dam Dirty Dancing (Durham Ranger) and she foaled G2 SAJC Breeder’s Stakes winner Padre.
They also raced her dam Our Fame to wins at Cheltenham (3), Morphetville and Victoria Park.
Consul Reef completed the Econsul hat-trick at Horsham on Saturday afternoon. The three year-old gelding took over at the top of the straight and defied odds-on favourite Stradatini to score by a half-length.
Econsul (NZ) is based at Darling View Thoroughbreds in Mundijong and Saturday’s results improved his current season statistics to 29 winners of 44 races and over $1 million in prizemoney. He stands alongside Patronize for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.
