Maggie wins Merry Dance

Raindance Maggie will step up to Group company following a festive-season victory in the Merry Christmas To All Hcp (1820m) at Ascot.

The Patronize mare received a perfect ride from Peter Hall to score by two lengths on Wednesday.  She notched a Northam maiden during a summer campaign last year and has won two of her last three starts this time in at Ascot.

She usually comes from further back but we had to make the most of the barrier and race on the speed,” trainer Adam Durrant said.  “She had no luck three-wide last time and we will throw her in at the deep end next time.”

Durrant indicated that assignment will be the G3 La Trice Classic (1800m) on January 1.

I don’t think she can beat the favourite (Real Charm) but she’s tough and will be competitive.  And some black-type will help – she’s got a nice pedigree.”

Raindance Maggie (5m Patronize – Sweet Marebelle by Peintre Celebre) made $22,000 at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions and is closely related to Multiplex Constructions filly My Pago who was runner-up in a G2 WA Guineas.

Her dam Sweet Marebelle is owned by Willy Parker and she foaled a colt by Hala Bek in September.

Raindance Maggie was the second-leg of a winning double for Patronize on Wednesday – his lightly-raced sprinter Terrorize had scored a first-up victory in the Perth Racing Hcp (1100m).

Terrorize (4g Patronize – Roikenn by Don’t Say Halo) was bred and is part-owned by Clive Atwell of Darling View Thoroughbreds.  He had won a Pinjarra maiden in February and was resuming after a 10 month spell on Xmas Eve.

Atwell has a yearling brother to Terrorize at his Mundijong nursery and a half-sister by Econsul foaled in August.

Patronize has 7 yearlings entered for the Perth Magic Millions in February.  A half-dozen have been catalogued under the Western Breeders Alliance and there’s also a filly (Lot 361) from Niumara Farm.
