Best Yet to Come bagged the first black-type win for Econsul in the LR Princess Stakes (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Econsul (NZ) stands at Darling View Thoroughbreds in Mundijong and his filly burst between runners to edge out long-shot Quest for Peace and the favourite Little Bit Ditsy in a thrilling three-way finish.
Best Yet to Come (3f Econsul – Simply The Best by Kingdom Bay) is based in Melbourne and she travelled north after winning a Bendigo maiden and finishing second to class filly River Delta at Flemington.
Trainer Mat Ellerton, who was at Randwick to saddle Solicit in the G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes, said the winner would go out for a spell but jockey Jason Taylor has a different spin on her immediate future.
She’s very promising and is an ideal horse for the Brisbane winter carnival,” Taylor said. “She’s a big filly and we got a couple of bumps. It was a very good effort at her first run the right-hand way of going. I might have to ring the owners on the way home!”
Her dam Simply the Best (NZ) has also produced stakes placed sprinter Simply Put (Charge Forward) and she has a 2yo filly by Econsul named Foreign Affair. Econsul has sired 23 winners of 33 races for $727,750 in prizemoney this season.
